In many combustion and agricultural applications atomizers are used to increase the surface area of liquid ensure high rates mixing improve evaporation. The most common, simple, reliable atomizer is pressure swirl atomizer. This said have quality effective atomization compared others induces swirling motion gives a hollow cone spray with air core as it emerges from exit orifice. To enhance understanding prediction atomizing characteristics various models need be investigated experimentally. paper presents validation Σ−Yliq model two-phase flow in using commercial CFD star-cd code laser-diffraction based drop measurements. obtain best results for droplet mean diameter between experiment terms turbulence different k-e were evaluated. show that computational predictions Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) good agreement experimental measurements radial positions when standard k-ɛ was used. However, more divergence observed RNG Realizable predictions. It also has on centreline axis percentage error less than five percent.
